Currently, it is illegal to grow or possess marijuana in plant or drug form in the United States. Some states allow using weed for medical reasons.

USA has spent astronomical sums of cash on fighting world-wide production of drugs, including weed. According to USA's Federal Controlled Substance Act (CSA) marijuana is categorized as a category I (or Schedule I) drug. Schedule I drugs include heroin, LSD, methamphetamine, mescaline and marijuana. CSA claims that Schedule I drugs, including marijuana have the least accepted medical application and the highest potential for abuse.
