Amanita Muscaria are certainly psycoactive, yet it is questionable as to
whether or not it is a good recreational drug. The Amanita Muscaria was
regarded as the God Soma in the ancient Vedic Hindu texts. It was also
ingrained into the culture and rituals of the nomadic tribes in Syberia.
There is some debate as to how to take the mushrooms. The tribes in
Syberia had the men eat the mushrooms and then the women drank their
urine. It was not a sexist thing at all. The reason the urine is drunk
is because the raw mushroom causes severe vomiting and nausia. However
the "refined" liquid does not have these adverse effects. The hindus
have lost the knowledge in practice as to the proper way to take the
mushrooms, yet some knowledge can be gleaned from the Vedas. First the
Divine Mushroom of immortality was clensed by a ray of sunlight. Then the
mushroom was crushed wet and the liquid that came out of the mushroom was
strained through wool to get any solids out. Next the liquid was put in
milk or mixed with milk curds. There is some debate as to if that was
the final form of the Soma or if it was filtered through a priest's body
before it was ready for final ingestion.
Soma is also called Fly-Agaric. There are some interesting reports in
the Hyperreal drug archive on the Web about Fly-Agaric, although I must
Caution you about some of the info seeing as it is far from first hand.
I don't know if I could eat something someone views as a god, without
following the proper ritual involved... and that is lost knowledge.
ALSO be careful!!!! 90% of all poisonous mushroom DEATHS come from the
same genous Amanita Muscaria is found. So be sure you have found the
right one.
